Heritage Day at Wallarobba

Thank you to the members who supported our participation in the heritage day at Wallarobba yesterday in various ways.

Some members donated old Hornsby People photos and information for our video displays, some journeyed to Wallarobba to see the displays and take part in the activities on offer and some worked on our table. We were allocated a prime position in The Artists’ Lounge along with Berowra Living History and The Cavalcade of History and Fashion.
Thanks to Michael Brown from Hornsby Council and Janelle McIntosh from The Hornsby Art Society for their warm welcome to Wallarobba. We hope to join you in this lovely venue again.

Although there were only a few visitors it was a successful day for our group as it brought us into contact with Hornsby Councillors and staff and people from other local heritage groups and community organisations. Our friend and group supporter Neil Chippendale from Hornsby Library represented the Library at the event with a display of photographs of local heritage buildings.

Those who stopped by to visit us were presented with lots of smiles and enthusiasm;  our members would have definitely infected one or two visitors with the genealogy bug. A benefit for the volunteers who attended was the opportunity it afforded us to chat about genealogy and our group and to get to know each other.

For our display we had handouts with our group details and tips on getting started in family history. There was a display of books featuring Hornsby People and we had two slideshows running continuously in big screens. The Hornsby People display that featured photos of famous and not so famous Hornsby Shire people from yesteryear was very popular. The second display featured  our group and its activities.

Do you know of Ernest Edward Morris born 16/11/1920 or 1921 at Wallarobba please? He is an Aboriginal Elder, and has just passed on, my father. The family is needing to trace their ancestors. His parents are Henry Morris and Eva May nee Thorpe. Thankyou, Anne Morris

Anne, I will forward your message to the Local Studies team at Hornsby Library who may have some information. IS there an email address that we can use to contact you? Regards, Jill Ball (Hornsby Shire FHG)
