Our First National Family History Month Event

 Next Wednesday, 19th August, at 2:00 pm we will be hosting our first event for National Family History Month. We hope to see many members and friends at Hornsby Library for this celebration.

“Researching Hawkesbury families” – a presentation by Michelle Nichols OAM

The Hawkesbury district was settled by 1794 and many families can trace their ancestors to this area. Michelle will provide a brief overview on the history of the Hawkesbury and then focus on some of resources from Hawkesbury Library, that may assist with researching Hawkesbury families.

Michelle Nichols OAM MA GradDip LAH DipFHS has been employed as the Community History Librarian at Hawkesbury Library for over 30 years. As part of this role she has co-ordinated the Hawkesbury Family History Group since its inception in 1982 and produced its journal, The Hawkesbury Crier. Over the years provided family history classes and and presentations. She has authored a number of publications relating to the Hawkesbury district.  In 2001 Michelle received an OAM for her local history work.Combining her passion for photography and history, she transcribes Hawkesbury  cemeteries www.hawkesbury.net.au/ with her husband, Jonathan Auld.

Those who attend this talk on Wednesday 19th August or the Genealogy Clinic will be eligible to enter a prize draw of a free gift certificate for any online course from a choice of over 200 courses from NFHM prize sponsor National Institute of Genealogical Studies (NIGS). The draw will take place at 3:00pm at The Genealogy Clinic on Saturday 22 August.

      Maria, There is no need to book for the event. Just please arrive ten minutes early in time to get settled. NB the event is on Wed 19th August. Regards, Jill Ball HSFHG
